How to tie the Bimini Twist knot

A double-line knot that creates a long loop of doubled line with near full line strength. It is the foundation of offshore leader systems and shock absorption for big fish.

Best for

Building a double-line class connection for offshore trolling and big game, giving you a strong loop to connect leaders and absorb sudden shock loads.

Strength

Very strong, near 100 percent of line strength as a double line

Tying the Bimini Twist, step by step

  1. 1Double the line to form a loop of the length you want, then put twenty or more twists in it.
  2. 2Spread the loop over your knees or a solid anchor to hold tension on the twists.
  3. 3Increase tension so the twists roll back over themselves down toward the standing line.
  4. 4Guide the wraps to pack neatly and evenly as they roll down.
  5. 5Secure the wraps with a half hitch around one leg of the loop.
  6. 6Finish with several rolling half hitches around both legs, then wet and cinch tight.
  7. 7Trim the tag end close to the finished knot.
