How to tie the Perfection Loop knot
Also known as Angler's Loop.
A clean, small fixed loop that sits perfectly in line with the standing line. It is ideal for loop-to-loop leader connections and for attaching pre-made leaders.
Best for
Forming a neat loop at the end of a leader for loop-to-loop connections, common in fly fishing and quick leader swaps.
Strength
Strong, around 85 to 90 percent of line strength
Difficulty
easy
Tying the Perfection Loop, step by step
- 1Form a loop by crossing the tag end behind the standing line.
- 2Make a second, smaller loop in front of the first by wrapping the tag around again.
- 3Lay the tag end across between the two loops.
- 4Pass the second loop through the first loop.
- 5Wet the knot and pull the standing line and the new loop apart to seat it.
- 6Adjust the loop to sit straight in line, then trim the tag end close.
Tips
- • Keep the loops small and neat so the finished loop sits straight and does not cock to one side.
- • This loop pairs cleanly with another loop for a fast, strong loop-to-loop connection.
Strengths
- + Sits perfectly in line with the standing line
- + Great for loop-to-loop leader systems
Watch out for
- - Can seat crooked if the loops are uneven
- - Not ideal for very heavy or stiff leader material
