How to tie the Uni Knot knot
Also known as Duncan Loop, Grinner Knot.
A versatile, dependable knot for connecting line to terminal tackle. It cinches down neatly and forms the building block for the double uni line-to-line connection.
Best for
Tying mono, fluoro, or braid to hooks, swivels, and lures across nearly all saltwater situations, and a great all-around knot to master first.
Strength
Strong, around 85 to 90 percent of line strength
Difficulty
easy
Tying the Uni Knot, step by step
- 1Pass the tag end through the eye and double it back alongside the standing line.
- 2Form a loop by laying the tag end back over the doubled lines.
- 3Wrap the tag end through the loop and around both lines five to six times.
- 4Wet the knot and pull the tag end to snug up the coils.
- 5Slide the knot down to the eye by pulling the standing line, then trim the tag.
Tips
- • Leave the knot a short distance from the eye if you want a small amount of loop play, or slide it tight for a fixed connection.
- • Use six or more wraps for braid and about five for mono or fluoro.
Strengths
- + Works with mono, fluoro, and braid
- + Strong and easy to tie in the field
Watch out for
- - Slightly bulkier than a clinch knot
- - Can slip on braid if wraps are too few
